Carding: Our carding set is pre-1900 and at least second hand - these machines would have been acquired from other local mills which were upgrading.
Spinning: The Woolmill's mule is an 1870 Platt Brothers mule, made in Oldham. It is an early model of a ‘self-acting’ mule which features 120 spindles.
Weaving: Dobcross Looms were the work horses of textile manufacturing in industrial Britain. With over a million of these machines made, those at Knockando Woolmill are early examples dating back to 1896 and 1899.

By creating exclusive, small batch yarns and fabrics for today’s luxury market, we are securing the future of the methods, skills, traditions and knowledge that have existed on this beautiful Scottish heritage site, since 1784.
Situated 0.5 miles from the Speyside Way, Knockando Woolmill is the perfect midway breakpoint for walkers and cyclists. Located roughly halfway on Section 4 of the route (Craigellachie to Ballindalloch), the Woolmill is just along the road from the old Tamdhu railway station and offers a Coffee Shop and Shop, perfect for refuelling for the rest of your journey.
Well behaved dogs are welcome on our site but must be kept on a lead. There are a variety of walks in the area to enjoy.
Knockando Woolmill is a rural site with some steep uneven paths and some of the buildings have narrow doors. The car park is a short walk from the site and we have three disabled parking spaces.
