Waterwheel Restoration

Waterwheel Restoration

Any recent visitors to the Mill this year will have noticed that our much loved waterwheel has been out of commission.

The photo above shows the wheel fully restored in 2012.

After 12 years of continuous turning, the wood work was in need of replacement with several paddles missing affecting the turning of the wheel.
At the end of last September, local joiner Mark Farquhar of MF Joinery stripped down and replaced the wood.

The wood replaced and the wheel ready to go!

The signs painted on the original paddles were removed. The names of those who kindly donated money for the restoration in 2012 will be included on a plaque to be mounted at the entrance to the visitor centre.
A huge thank you to Mark Farquhar bringing the wheel back to life!
