In Knockando since 1784
There have been more than two centuries of Woollen Manufacture at Knockando Woolmill.
The walls of Knockando Woolmill have echoed to the sound of industry for more than 200 years. The machinery may have changed over time, but the skilled manufacture of woollen textiles has continued uninterrupted.
The Woolmill is a rare survivor of a traditional way of life here in North East Scotland. The combination of textile production with crofting helped successive generations overcome slumps and competition, wars and natural disasters. With the support of a strong, local community, determined individuals have kept the Woolmill's wheel turning and its looms weaving.
Nearly all other district mills have fallen silent; Knockando Woolmill stands almost alone.
